Hello Port Townsend, my name is Dr. Dean Brock , DC. I’m new to Fountain Chiropractic but not new to Chiropractic. I have spent the last 14 years in private practice in a small southwest community. The lure of sailing in the beautiful Pacific Northwest has brought my wife Sinead and I to Fountain Chiropractic. We are blessed to serve the beautiful community of Port Townsend. They say Chiropractors are born from one of two paths, a family history or a life changing event, mine is the latter. While serving 20 years in the U. S. Navy I suffered a spinal disc injury and went through surgery. A few years later the symptoms were all returning and spinal fusion was recommended. I was older and a little wiser and chose to try Chiropractic. Within a very short period of time I was once again symptom free. It occurred to me that I might not have had to go through surgery the first time if I had chosen chiropractic first. From that point on I pursued Chiropractic as a new second career.
As a chiropractor specializing in wellness, I understand that the spine is as much about neurology as it is about biomechanics, diet and exercise. The articulations and the muscles of the spine are full of mechanoreceptors, sensors that send information to the nerve system. Every time we work with the spine, we activate neurological circuits in the direction of the brain and bring the nerve system into balance. Chiropractic has a significant effect on an area of the brain called the cerebellum. Studies have shown that this structure is involved in attention. Higher parts of the brain are also dependent upon the proper balance and function in the cerebellum. If the cerebellum does not function optimally, the rest of the brain becomes somewhat clumsy. By activating the spinal receptors and balancing the cerebellum, we help the brain function better.
I am so excited to be able to contribute the same Philosophy, Beliefs, Truth and Facts about Health, Chiropractic, Nutrition and Exercise to the community of Port Townsend and the surrounding areas that Fountain Chiropractic has for years. I use the same low force Activator technique as Dr. Fountain, DC. I also work with a percussor vibrating tool and a low level Erchonia laser to perform myofascial release therapy.
